Daphne’s diary magazine reveiw

This magazine is set out like a visual diary and scrapbook which includes notes, letters, photographs and other things from Daphne. The content is varied and includes recipes, interior design, garden, vintage, DIY projects, outings and trips, shopping, poetry and some paper crafts for which materials are provided. This is an A4 magazine and is mainly made of unglossed paper and card apart from some materials provided for crafts which I think suits the vintage, shabby chic feel.
The scrapbook like layout of this magazine makes the design style very different to most other magazines available. One of the things I like most about the magazine is the way that every page does not have an organised layout, some pages have handwritten style notes and arrows and some have more traditional computer typefaces. The layout of the pages makes the information easy to read in small chunks.
This magazine also has a large focus on crafts as it contains many ideas for inspiration and also some which come with materials including some vintage style cones to eat snacks out of, homemade soap bars, lovely luggage stickers, a paper teacup and many more, there is a lot to keep readers entertained throughout the month.
One criticism towards this magazine would be that as every page has such a similar style and layout it can look a little cluttered with images that are not really needed, so it would have been nice to have some pages with a larger amount of text on for when someone would like to spend a little more time reading. Also I think some of the pages look to busy so less irrelevant images and a cleaner look to some pages would be good.
As someone pointed out to me I think this magazine may have taken inspiration from the book –‘A country diary of an Edwardian lady’ as the hand drawn title font on the front of the book is very similar to one used for titles throughout the magazine and also the painted flowers on the front of the book are also featured in some pages of the magazine.
Overall I think this is a good magazine as it has a range of content to keep readers entertained weather it be reading a review of a destination or getting creative with some materials provided. I think this magazine would appeal to a wide range of people and the vintage, shabby chic theme is quite popular amongst a range of ages. I think the price of the magazine at £4.99 is great value as it has a lot of content and is quite a large format. As it says on the front this magazine really is a full of inspiration and style for anyone who loves vintage, antiques, cooking, home decorating and likes to be creative in their day-to-day lives.
